Amazon Prime Video is getting into the wrestling business with new AEW deal

All Elite Wrestling and Amazon’s Prime Video have announced a new long-term agreement that will enable the streaming platform to feature AEW’s pay-per-view events in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The collaboration will kick off this weekend with the airing of AEW Revolution on Sunday night. Unlike certain sports content such as Thursday Night Football that is part of a Prime subscription, AEW events will require a separate payment for access, with Revolution priced at $49.99. This deal offers fans an additional option for viewing AEW content. For AEW, this partnership signifies a diversification from the company's longstanding connection with Warner Bros. Discovery. Earlier this year, WBD’s Max service started simulcasting AEW’s weekly programs Dynamite and Collision concurrently with their cable broadcast. Max also houses a library of past AEW pay-per-view events, with WBD working on the capability to stream them live. AEW has chosen not to distribute its major live events as part of a standard monthly subscription through any streaming platform, a contrast to WWE's approach where Peacock subscribers can watch premium live events like WrestleMania without extra charges. WWE recently made its flagship weekly show, Raw, available on Netflix after airing on cable TV for decades. On the other hand, AEW has previously streamed its pay-per-views through various services like Bleacher Report, TrillerTV, YouTube, and now Prime Video, alongside traditional cable and satellite providers. While having all events available on Max afterwards is convenient, viewers who wish to watch AEW's major shows live will still need to pay for each event separately, at least for the time being.
