Jackbox games are coming to smart TVs
Tee K.O. 2 from Jackbox Party Pack 10. Jackbox Games are set to become accessible on smart TVs through a new cloud streaming service, as mentioned in a blog post. Jackbox is planning to introduce a beta version of the service on “one or two smart TV platforms in the Spring of 2025.” Typically, Jackbox titles are bundled together in collections known as “Party Packs” that are playable on various platforms such as game consoles and PCs. With the introduction of this new native smart TV app, joining a Jackbox game could be made simpler, as it eliminates the need to initiate the titles from a device like a game console. Initially, this Jackbox service will provide a “small collection” of “ad-supported” games for free. However, in the future, Jackbox intends to make “our entire catalog of games available for a subscription fee” as well. (Currently, you can subscribe to a Jackbox Games channel on Amazon’s Luna cloud gaming service for $4.99 per month to gain access to the Jackbox catalog.) Jackbox’s service is powered by Amazon’s latest AWS GameLift Streams technology, which enables companies to create their own cloud gaming applications and experiences. GameLift Streams is also being utilized by companies like Bandai Namco, which uses it to “deliver an immersive metaverse platform to enthusiasts of its Gundam franchise,” as stated in a press release.
