Arkansas rolls out mobile driving licences
DIGITAL ID: Arkansas Introduces Mobile Driver's Licenses
Residents of Arkansas can now conveniently store a digital version of their driver's license or state ID on their smartphone. The digital ID can be used to verify identity at various businesses, venues, law enforcement agencies, and soon for air travel.
The Arkansas Mobile ID, approved by the state's Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), is a secure and contactless credential that is stored on smartphones. It serves as a valid form of ID at participating establishments.
Arkansas is collaborating with TSA for approval of the Mobile ID for air travel, expected to be granted by this summer. The list of organizations accepting Mobile ID is projected to expand over time.
The Mobile ID Verify app, a free resource, is accessible to businesses and law enforcement to authenticate individuals with an Arkansas Mobile ID.
The DFA emphasizes that users have control over the information they share through the Mobile ID. For instance, users can verify their age for age-restricted purchases without revealing unnecessary details like their address.
"We are focused on enhancing the efficiency of Arkansas government," Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders declares. "The introduction of a secure mobile ID streamlines access to essential documents for Arkansans, aligning state services with modern technology."
Jim Hudson, the secretary of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, urges residents to utilize this free resource, enabling them to manage the sharing of their information from the license or ID. This empowerment ensures consistent accessibility to state-issued credentials.
